This past week Haig Point played host for the Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational. Two students, Gabe Lench and Isaiah Logue, from Liberty University walked away as co-champions individually. The Liberty team also won the overall team title for the second time in three years 21 shots ahead of Campbell University. Making this their 25th NCAA Division 1 tournament victory. Four of the teams members finished in the top 6 positions with the last tying for 29th. Logue and Lench were the only two golfers to finish overall under par for the tournament.

With 55 players and 10 teams this year it was a competitive field for many. The top 3 positions for schools went out to Liberty University, Campbell University, and University of North Carolina Charlotte.

For many teams this was their season opener and the course did not let them off easy. The weather included high winds that eventually steadied out to 10-20mph gusts all day. The players met their match on the Signature Course, which was tricky for many but paid off for others. The course is par 72 and covers a yardage of 7,380.

The course itself has been included in Golf Digests America’s 100 Greatest Courses as well as Golf Magazines Top 100 Courses in the World and U.S. The greens were designed in 1986 and renovated in 2005 the greens are flanked by beautiful mature hardwood trees. The course has 20 holes with two different ways to play making it a course that grows with its members.

Haig Point would like to thank all the teams involved. Hosting the tournament has been a privilege each and every year. We look forward to having the teams back next year and wish them luck as they continue on in their season.
