Haig Point will host the seventh annual Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational golf tournament from Sept. 21 through Sept. 23.
Kennesaw State and UNC Wilmington will serve as tournament hosts.
Sixty-three players and 11 schools will compete on Haig Point’s Rees Jones course. Those slated to attend are Kennesaw State, UNC Wilmington, Bowling Green, Charleston Southern, Campbell, East Carolina, Elon, Presbyterian, Towson, USC Upstate and Winthrop.
“This invitational goes a long way to help grow the game by promoting junior golf,” Haig Point’s director of golf Jason Cherry said in a release. “It’s also a chance for these young players to compete against conferences and schools they won’t see during regular-season play.”
Jones originally designed his signature course at Haig Point in 1986 and returned in 2007 to restore it. The course has been included in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” list and “Best in State.” The design has also landed it in Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 in the World.”
The course includes an atypical 20-hole layout, alternate holes and five different teeing areas.
Tee times are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Ferry rides are $10 per person for the roundtrip.
