A Good Night Made for a Great Morning
It had been a long day, and I was ready to get some much-needed rest. As I debarked from the Haig Point ferry, Daufuskie Island was absolutely glowing from the lights reflecting off the water.
It had been a long day, and I was ready to get some much-needed rest. As I debarked from the Haig Point ferry,
was absolutely glowing from the lights reflecting off the water. I gathered my suitcase and trekked up to Strachan Mansion. Would I be able to get a glass of wine? How about food? Was it safe to walk around in the dark? Suffice it to say, the answer to all three was a resounding “Yes.”
“The Mansion,” as Strachan Mansion is referred, welcomes you with the ambiance of stepping back into time while enjoying today’s modern conveniences. The gathering areas are cozy and inviting, similar to the feeling you have when you visit your grandparents’ home. The bar showcases beautiful wood finishes and comfortable seating to enjoy a beverage with friends or family. The General Store stocks all the snacks I love, including chips, dips and yogurt (yes, my perfect travel meal). I saw the store was so well-stocked had I needed to bake a cake, I wouldn’t have lacked for ingredients!
Each private guest room presents a unique décor to embrace the past while ensuring today’s necessities. Features such as fireplaces, large windows and porches pay homage to the building’s 106-year history. My quarters, The Mongin Room, overlooked azure waters and the ferry boarding walkway. But what I found most spectacular during my nighttime arrival was the number of staff still at work welcoming residents, visitors and guests to the island, assisting with their bags and receiving their mainland purchases.
The next morning, I awoke to such a glorious sight I had to take this picture. I found myself staring for quite some time. I knew after witnessing this view, the day was going to be great. Actually perfect.
